Break-even calculator
Explore the whole-unit sales needed to cover fixed costs, with an optional profit target. Use the same period for costs and the target.

Amounts are displayed in CAD. Keep all inputs on a consistent basis.
$1,675.00 in sales at $25.00 per unit.
Contribution per unit: $15.00.
Calculated on this device. These inputs are not submitted to Sora.
How the calculation works
Units = (fixed costs + target profit) ÷ (selling price per unit − variable cost per unit). Whole units are rounded up.
A worked example
At $1,000 of fixed costs, a $25 selling price and $10 variable cost, each unit contributes $15. The model needs 67 whole units to cover fixed costs. Adding a $500 profit target raises the requirement to 100 units.
Assumptions and limits
This model assumes a single product or stable sales mix, constant prices and costs, and sufficient capacity. It excludes cash timing, financing, tax and stepped changes in costs. No finite sales target covers fixed costs in this model when contribution per unit is zero or negative.
