How the calculation works

Annual gross = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks paid per year. Monthly gross is the annual figure ÷ 12, semi-monthly ÷ 24 and biweekly ÷ 26. Take-home pay comes from the same 2026 engine as the Ontario take-home pay calculator: federal and Ontario income tax, CPP, CPP2 and EI come off the annual figure, and the result is spread across the same periods.

A worked example

At an illustrative $25 an hour for 40 hours a week and 52 weeks, annual gross pay is $52,000: $4,333.33 a month and $2,000.00 every two weeks. Estimated take-home pay is $41,641.22 a year, or $3,470.10 a month, which works out to about $20.02 for each hour worked. At 32 hours a week and 48 paid weeks at $30 an hour, annual gross pay is $46,080.

Assumptions and limits

The general minimum wage in Ontario is $17.95 an hour from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027, up from $17.60. It is adjusted each October, and student, homeworker, guide and other rates differ, so the tool compares only with the general rate. Annual pay assumes the same hours every week and no overtime, shift premiums, tips or commissions; overtime rules depend on your job and hours. Take-home pay is an estimate for one employer’s employment income and leaves out the credits on your TD1 forms, benefit premiums, pension contributions and union dues. Your pay stub follows the CRA’s payroll formulas and can differ.
